Deferred... Disappointing, to say the least. Well, it's time for me to finish up and send out the rest of my apps, so here we go again...

haha, Charles, MIT has one retarded admissions counselor.
Don't be disappointed. Just laugh away at the stupidity of that (wo)man.

*shock*

MIT does not know what it's doing. There's no other way to explain this.

If you want, Charles, I will personally walk down to the MIT admissions office and chew them out for their stupidity. I could say something like this:

"Hey MIT... sounds like you need a lesson in logic 101

A) Charles = Mind-blowingly Intelligent

B) Charles = Very interested in math, science, and econ

C) Charles = The rare Math/Sci person who also likes the humanities (SEE "Summer Program, Telluride Association")

D) MIT = a school that tries to take kids who are mind-blowingly intelligent and very interested in math science and econ.

E) MIT = a school that wants simultaneous to bolster the quality of its humanities.

F) MIT defered Charles

.
. .

MIT=Stupid"

well said dylan. but i'm surprised. charles seems like the perfect match. Crazy strong math/sci but equally strong in humanities (see TASP), I just don't get it. He must have been reeaaallly borderline

Btw, Charles, if you go to http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index3.htm

you'll see that your academic index is a 235 (or a 9 as some say) so you should be guarenteed acceptance anywhere. At the very least, Ivies use this system extensively, even if MIT doesn't. So go to Harvard and let MIT go @(#*@&)$ itself.

hah, you guys shouldn't let it bother you so much; MIT has a pretty strict EA quota, so a deferral isn't really a kiss of death at all. I hope.

I wonder how late those MIT people stayed up on Sunday night sorting acceptance/deferral letters, and what they were drinking . . . well, even if they miss the one and only Wu a second time by some cosmic fluke, MIT's loss will surely be the gain of some other hallowed hall of learning. No worries, Charles!

Someday, teachers across the US will still tell students depressed about a bad grade about how Sir Isaac Newton "was considered to have a deficiency in math," and how Einstein "got mediocre grades in school." "And get this," they'll add, "Charles Wu was deferred from MIT!" The students' jaws will drop in disbelief.

Grar.

The admissions staff probably had too many late nights and... hey why am I making excuses for them? They just need to wake up and get new reading glasses or something.

Best of luck in April!
